Robert Wessels

The chairman of Aina Le’a Inc. and the founder of the Town of Aina Le’a land development program, Robert J. Wessels is a business development and financing consultant with over 40 years of experience in managing start-up operations, entitlement planning, as well as landed property development. Mr. Wessels is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and New York University Graduate School of Business.
He has held operating officer and board of director positions at two New York Stock Exchange listed companies (AMAX, INC & Southwest Forest Industries, Inc.) and three NASDAQ listed companies (Tellus Industries, Inc.; Enviropur Waste Refining and Technologies, Inc. and Dunn’s Supply Company, Inc.). Aina Le’a Inc. shares will be listed and tradable on NASDAQ as well.
Professional Experience

 

Financing and Banking

  • Irving Trust Company, One Wall Street, New York, New York: National Account platform loan officer at One Wall Street headquarters and major account officer at 42nd and Park Street branch handling West Virginia Pulp and Paper as well as other uptown corporate accounts.
  • Southwest Savings and Loan Association, Phoenix, Arizona: Analyzed and acquired controlling interest in the local savings and loan industry and as a Board adviser expanded the deposit base and worked through the real estate portfolio to stabilize and grow the S& L to a major position in the local market before merging with a national banking syndicate.
  • Sacramento Commercial Bank, Sacramento, California: One of the four founders of this local bank, he retained the bank officers and participated in obtaining the FDIC approvals for the bank. Served as one of the Board of Directors on the loan committee and on the real estate joint venture committee of the Bank.

 

Corporate Operating and Management

  • Conwed Corporation, St. Paul, Minnesota: A Weyerhaeuser family owned company devoted to the development of new wood products. Served a manager of new ventures and structured three new divisions, which became the major part of Conwed’s profitable businesses.
  • Southwest Forest Industries, Inc., Phoenix, Arizona: Vice-President of Corporate Development. Responsible for the acquisition of 23 companies in the paper box and construction industries. Managing Director of the shelter group with home building operations in Phoenix and Pinetop, Arizona, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  • AMAX, Inc. Greenwich, Connecicut: Vice President of Corporate Development overseeing an acquisition analysis team and the worldwide development of facilities and the acquisition and management of more than 1.5 million acres of land.
  • Custom Craft Manufacturing, Phoenix, Arizona: Chairman overseeing the operations and financing of the manufacturing of modular office buildings for use by NASA, schools and developer’s sales offices.

 

Construction and Real Estate Development

  • Corona de Tucson, Arizona: Manager of the entitlement process and oversaw the construction of the golf coarse, infrastructure and construction the first 580 homes in the community.
  • Villa de Paz, Phoenix, Arizona: Planned and developed a 640-acre parcel west of Phoenix into golf coarse and 1,100 homes.
  • Landings, Davey, Florida: Planned and developed and sold a 480 unit condo project in Davey.
  • Corporate Center, Greenwich, Connecticut: Acquired a 50-acre site and planned a corporate headquarters building for AMAX, Inc. and Xerox.
  • Villages of San Marcos, San Marcos, California: Acquired 230 acres of hillside property and constructed 480 villas on the site.
  • Fair Oaks and Bradshaw Office Buildings, Sacramento, California: Acquired the site and constructed and leased 250,000 square feet of high-end office space in Sacramento.
  • Colton Industrial Park, Riverside, CA: Acquired 7 acres and constructed 250,000 square feet industrial building.
  • Deer Valley Industrial Park, Phoenix, Arizona: Acquired a 15-acre parcel and constructed industrial and manufacturing buildings.
  • Tonopah Test Center, Tonopah, Nevada: Planned, designed and constructed several buildings totaling well over 100,000 square feet at the military’s secure stealth test center in Tonopah.
